OTC '15: Surprise – one firm hiring when others are laying off

HOUSTON – At a time when the oil and gas industry has laid off more than 100,000 workers, one oilfield engineering firm is welcoming resumes from professionals for high-level technical and management positions.
“We’re fortunate that certain segments of our business are exhibiting rapid growth,” explained Zentech, Inc. Vice President Srinivas “Sundy” Srinivasan. “As such, here at OTC, we’re looking to hire senior shipyard construction managers, drilling equipment engineers and engineering project managers.”
Founded by Ramesh Maini in 1978, is an engineering consulting firm for the offshore oil and gas industry. Since that time the company has continually grown, in numbers of employees and in the scope and range of Zentech’s services. Today the firm has more than 160 professionals who are based at the home office in Houston, as well as international offices in Cuernavaca (Mexico), Sharjah (U.A.E.), Chennai and Mumbai (India), Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia) and Rio de Janeiro (Brazil).
Among Zentech's engineering design products is the R-550D, a lightweight jackup that can drill wells to 30,000-ft depth at up to 400-ft water depth. The first R-550D is being built at a shipyard in China.
In a departure from the oil field, Zentech has received a contract from the Brazilian Navy to inspect and assess the hull of the aircraft carrier Sao Paulo as part of a modernization program.
