South Sudan aims to boost oil output with CNPC deal

JUBA, South Sudan -- CNPC and South Sudan's Ministry of Petroleum and Mining signed an MOU on EOR cooperation in Juba, the capital of South Sudan, on Dec. 17.

According to the MOU, CNPC will utilize its EOR technology to work with the operators of three blocks to increase crude production in South Sudan, and provide relevant training to technicians from the Ministry of Petroleum and Mining.

South Sudan's Block 1/2/4 is currently in the latter stage of development, while Block 3/7 and Block 5 mainly produce heavy oil.

EOR and tailored heavy oil recovery technologies will play an important role in stabilizing and increasing crude output from these blocks.
