DAYTON, Texas -- On October 5, 2015, Global Tubing, LLC delivered its second record‐breaking coiled tubing string to the Port of Houston where it awaits transport to the Middle East. The new 2.375-in. (60.325 mm) diameter string weighs over 136,000 lbs (61,700 kg) at a continuous length of over 30,000 ft (9,144 m). This reel is one of the largest (by weight) coiled tubing strings ever produced, surpassing Global Tubing’s previous record by more than 3,000 lbs (1,360 kg).

A major CT service company will use this massive coiled tubing string in an artificial islands development in the Upper Zakum region of the Arabian Gulf. Throughout the extensive design process, Global Tubing’s expert coiled tubing engineers engaged with both the offshore well operator and the service company’s technical personnel to provide customer support and jointly engineer an optimal coiled tubing design for the application.

The string features Global Tubing’s unique Continuous Taper design, which provides rapid wall thickness transitions. The strategic placement of the wall thickness transitions provides additional tubing strength where it is needed most. These transitions help manage overall tubing weight and satisfy the requirements to operate in high-pressure environments, while providing extended horizontal reach and enhanced service life.
