ROC, AWE come up dry with Bohai Bay exploration well
SYDNEY, Australia -- AWE Ltd. announced Tuesday that ROC Oil Company (ROC), the operator of Block 09/05 in China’s Bohai Bay basin, has confirmed that the second of two planned exploration wells in the block, QK12-3-1D, reached the planned total depth of 3,600 m MDRT (measured depth below the rotary table) at 03:00 AEDT on Oct. 18.
The well was designed to test the oil potential of a 3-way dip closed structure matured by 3D seismic data. The well successfully drilled all three targets and intersected good stacked reservoirs in these objectives. However, no hydrocarbon shows were recorded.
The JV partners in Block 09/05 are AWE Limited (40%, via a subsidiary) and ROC (60%, via a subsidiary).
Block 09/05 is in the western part of the Bohai Bay basin, approximately 10 km southeast of Tanggu, the largest port in China. The block covers an area of 335 km2 with water depths from approximately 5 m to 10 m.
