HOUSTON -- An opening ceremony was held June 19 for the newly rebuilt St. Louis Catholic Primary School Nfiengong. Aided by a donation from Halliburton and the Amom Foundation, students in the village of Nfiengong near Bamenda, Cameroon, have a new primary school to attend in their village.

Halliburton helped the Amom Foundation reconstruct the school, which was destroyed by a windstorm in 2011. The primary school was the only educational facility within a 2-mile radius of the village and served about 275 students ranging from 4 to 12 years old. Students had been walking more than 20 miles to attend primary school.

Halliburton and the Amom Foundation broke ground and laid the foundation for the school on Oct. 25, 2014, and construction was completed in February 2015. Halliburton employees also contributed volunteer hours toward the project. The school is expected to benefit 11,400 primary school students over the next 10 years and includes three classrooms, a storage facility and an office for the head teacher.

"We appreciate the support Halliburton has provided for this project and are elated about the extraordinary impact it will have on the lives of families in the village of Nfiengong," said Afowiri Fondzenyuy, Amom Foundation founder and managing director. "Tens of thousands of students, for years to come, will have a place to attend primary school because of Halliburton. This project meets our model of low cost and high impact, and we look forward to impacting millions of lives in Africa in the coming years through our partnership with Halliburton."

"Every child should have a chance to go to school. It's an honor to provide that opportunity to thousands of students," said Sandeep Kumar, Halliburton area manager, West and North Central Africa. "Our effort with the Amom Foundation will have a lasting impact and aligns with our global efforts to be a good corporate neighbor."
