Bell Geospace awarded contract for data acquisition survey in Mongolia

August 18, 2015

HOUSTON -- Bell Geospace, leaders in full tensor gravity gradiometry data acquisition, have announced that they have been awarded a contract to acquire approximately 4,247 square mi of data onshore Mongolia, by Petro Matad Limited.

The program marks the first time that the full tensor gradiometer technique will be applied to oil and gas exploration in the country, demonstrating the growing appreciation for FTG data acquisition across the world. The survey will commence in September 2015 and covers Blocks IV and V in central Mongolia, an area of mountainous desert and steppe.

Commenting on the latest contract award, Petro Matad said in a company statement, “The program is designed to provide high-resolution gravity coverage, capable of resolving prospect scale structural features, to aid in correlation between 2D seismic profiles and extrapolate structural networks into frontier areas to optimize future exploration work.”

Scott Hammond, CEO of Bell Geospace, said he was delighted at the award. “It is a real pleasure for us to be working in a relatively untried area for exploration. The terrain covered by the survey is perfect for data acquisition using our aircraft (Basler Turbo 67) and demonstrates the ability of FTG to support 2D seismic in optimising exploration budget”.
