Baker Hughes secures largest compressor line order for Dubai gas storage facility
(WO) — Baker Hughes has announced its largest-ever order of Integrated Compressor Line (ICL) units, awarded by Dubai Petroleum Establishment (DPE) on behalf of the Dubai Supply Authority (DUSUP).
The order includes 10 ICL units aimed at enhancing gas swing storage capacity as part of Dubai’s decarbonization efforts. The units will be installed at the Margham Gas storage facility, with five designated for gas storage and five for dual-use injection boosting or gas export.
The project seeks to improve the reliability of Dubai's energy supply, providing flexibility between natural gas and solar power while reducing emissions. The new ICL technology will support the UAE's strategy to expand renewable energy sources.
"Our ICL technology will be key in supporting Dubai's growing renewables sector," said Ganesh Ramaswamy, executive vice president at Baker Hughes. "This order highlights our success in delivering low-carbon solutions."
DPE’s decision to expand the use of ICL units follows the successful operation of three units since 2020, which have demonstrated excellent performance with zero seal leakages and minimal maintenance downtime. The order is part of a broader trend of Baker Hughes securing similar contracts in Italy, Germany, Argentina, and the United States.
