(WO) – Energy NL issued a statement on the passing of former prime minister, The Right Honourable Minister Brian Mulroney.
“Prime Minister Brian Mulroney supported the Atlantic Accord which provided joint management of the Newfoundland and Labrador offshore and enshrined in legislation that our province would be the principal beneficiary of the industry. His support for the Atlantic Accord and the offshore never wavered, despite many challenges and obstacles. On behalf of Energy NL – our members, board of directors, and staff – I offer my sincerest condolences to the family and friends of Prime Minister Brian Mulroney and offer our gratitude for his service to Canada, and Newfoundland and Labrador,” said Gerry Mayo, Chair, Energy NL Board of Directors.
“Prime Minister Brian Mulroney very early recognized the potential and the importance of the Newfoundland and Labrador offshore oil and gas industry. He had the foresight to see the impact and prosperity the offshore could bring to Newfoundland and Labrador, as well as the opportunity before our province to create long-term benefits and establish a world-class supply and service sector. Prime Minister Mulroney was a founder of the Newfoundland and Labrador offshore oil and gas industry, and forever an ally. His legacy in Newfoundland and Labrador is one of vision, confidence, and prosperity; it will resonate for decades to come,” said Charlene Johnson, Energy NL CEO.
