Equinor to drill Angel exploration well on highly-prospective Heisenberg discovery offshore Norway
(WO) – On Monday, June 24, The Norwegian Offshore Directorate granted Equinor a drilling permit for an additional exploration well in the Heisenberg discovery offshore Norway in the North Sea.
The well, designated 35/10-13 S and referred to as “Angel,” is part of production license 827 SB, with Equinor holding a 51% interest and DNO Norge holding 49%. Drilling will be conducted using Odfjell Drilling’s advanced Deepsea Atlantic semi-submersible rig, capable of operating at depths up to 3,000 m and drilling to 10,670 m.
In March 2024, Equinor and DNO delineated the Heisenberg discovery, estimating recoverable volumes of 24 to 56 MMboe. They plan to drill a new well in the second quarter of 2024 to explore the Angel prospect and further delineate Heisenberg.
The Heisenberg discovery is strategically located near major North Sea hubs and within tieback range, facilitating fast-track development alongside other recent discoveries where DNO is involved, such as the Carmen discovery. The production license was initially awarded in 2015, with additional acreage added in 2022.
