HOUSTON (Bloomberg) -- The boom in U.S. oil production will live to see another week. The nation’s crude explorers, engaged in a pricing war with the world’s largest suppliers, defied predictions of a drilling slowdown and ran the most rigs since mid-November, boosting the U.S. count by three to 1,575, Baker Hughes Inc. said Dec. 5. Rigs targeting natural gas were unchanged at 344, the Houston-based field services company’s website showed.

ST. PETERSBURG, Russia -- Gazprom Neft has become the first oil operator in Russia to drill a well with a horizontal borehole of 1,500 m. The well, on the Yamal Peninsula, reached 4,200 m in length. Some 91% of the horizontal section is located in the oil-saturated bed of the Novoportovskoye formation, characterized by high permeability strata, which yield high flow rates without the application of fracing.

HAMILTON, Bermuda (Bloomberg) -- Seadrill Ltd. fell the most in six years after the offshore driller controlled by billionaire John Fredriksen suspended dividends as the slump in oil prices hurts demand for rigs. Hamilton, Bermuda-based Seadrill fell as much as 16%, the most since November 2008, to 118.8 kroner and traded at 118.9 kroner at 9:37 a.m. in Oslo. That’s the lowest level since July 2010.
