Brazil’s oil regulator is set to grant exploration rights in a promising offshore region where state-controlled oil producer Petrobras has faced a years-long dispute with environmental authorities to start drilling. According to the ANP, 31 companies are registered and able to bid, including Petrobras, ExxonMobil, Shell, Chevron, Equinor and bp.

This discovery underscores bp's renewed focus on upstream exploration, part of its strategy reset announced in February 2025. Chevron co-owns the Far South prospect with 42.5% interest.

(Bloomberg) – Exxon Mobil Corp. has withdrawn from an oil-exploration block off the coast of Suriname, not far from where it discovered more than 11 billion bbls in Guyanese waters. Exxon will transfer its 50% stake in the block to Malaysia’s Petronas, the project operator.
