ATYRAU (Bloomberg) -- Kazakhstan’s largest oilfield won’t resume production before early next year after partners in the Kashagan project inspect 180 km of pipelines. A full inspection of both oil and gas pipelines, each about 90 km long, will be done using a probe known as an intelligent pig before starting the field, North Caspian Operating Company, the field’s operator, said by e-mail.

HOZATEL (Bloomberg) -- South Africa must pursue the potential for shale-gas drilling in the Karoo region because it may transform the country’s economy, President Jacob Zuma said. The government will decide whether to allow shale-gas exploration in the region early next year after consulting local communities, Zuma said in Hozatel, Northern Cape province.

DALLAS -- Pioneer Natural Resources Company said that severe winter weather in Texas has significantly impacted the Company’s production and drilling operations in the Spraberry/Wolfcamp, Eagle Ford Shale and Barnett Shale Combo plays. The Spraberry/Wolfcamp area has been especially hard hit as heavy icing and low temperatures have resulted in extensive power outages, facilities freeze-ups, trucking curtailments and limited access to production and drilling facilities. An extensive recovery period is expected, and it is likely to be a few weeks before the full impact of this event can be determined.
