KCA Deutag has been awarded more than $400 million worth of contracts for the construction and operation of five new build land rigs for Khazzan. The rigs are being assembled in Nizwa to help maximize employment opportunities in Oman.

JAKARTA, Indonesia (Bloomberg) -- PT Pertamina agreed to buy a 30% stake in Murphy Oil’s oil and natural gas assets in Malaysia for $2 billion in cash. Closing with the Pertamina Malaysia Eksplorasi Produks unit is expected to take place in two phases, with the first completed this year and the second in the first quarter of 2015, El Dorado, Arkansas-based Murphy said in a statement. Murphy, which entered Malaysia in 1999, will remain operator of the developments.

SYDNEY, Australia -- Roc Oil (China) Company, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Roc Oil, has finished drilling the first of two exploration wells in the Beibu Gulf Block 22/12. The WZ12-10-1 well has discovered oil pay in the Jiaowei (T42) formation, while no oil pay was interpreted in the Weizhou formation.

LONDON (Bloomberg) -- Billionaire John Fredriksen boosted his stake in rig company Seadrill Ltd. after the stock dropped on a market downturn, a longtime adviser left, and amid uncertainty over a Russian deal. Fredriksen’s Hemen Holding Ltd. bought 2 million shares in the world’s biggest offshore-rig company by market value Sept. 22, boosting its stake to 115.1 million shares, or 23.34% of the total, Seadrill said in a statement.

IRVING, Texas (Bloomberg) -- Exxon Mobil Corp. said the U.S. government is giving the company more time to shut its Russian Arctic well beyond the deadline for sanctions aimed at halting the $700 million project. Exxon asked Washington for an extension to allow it to continue performing shut-down work on the Universitetskaya-1 (University-1) well in Russia’s Kara Sea to make sure the well was safe before it’s temporarily abandoned. The Irving, Texas- based company already had ceased drilling the offshore well after U.S. sanctions set a Sept. 26 deadline for ending the work.

IRVING, Texas (Bloomberg) -- Exxon Mobil Corp. and OAO Rosneft halted drilling on an offshore oil well intended as the first step in unlocking billions of barrels of crude in Russia’s remote Arctic, according to people familiar with the project. Work stopped just a few days after the U.S. and European Union barred companies from helping Russia exploit Arctic, deepwater or shale-oil fields, said three people with knowledge of the rig’s operations who asked not to be named since they weren’t authorized to speak about the project.

NAIROBI, Kenya (Bloomberg) -- Kenya expects its estimate of oil resources to almost double to 1 Bbbl as well-drilling climbs and the government forges ahead with plans to build an export pipeline, an energy ministry official said.
